Gun Control

In case you were wondering, I’m for it. I think we should do whatever it takes to get rid of access to guns. Everyone’s access to guns. Criminals, civilians, everyone.

I know it’s not as easy as that. Deer would overrun our cities! How would we defend ourselves against raccoons? Who would shoot the last white rhinoceros? Stringer Bell would still be alive! But I think it’s a good idea to state your destination up front.

In light of all the recent shootings and the massive, alarming uptick in gun sales since the election (fueled by the NRA and Fox News), the media’s on the scent again. I heard some wingnut on Jim Lehrer yesterday talking about how gun control won’t prevent shooting sprees.

I’m sure rubber bands would have achieved the same result.

Later, cruising Slate, I came across this editorial detailing the annual April surge in gun violence. Crazy. What is it about the decided mind that precludes rational conversation about causality? I just don’t get it.

(Just to be clear, I don’t mean the causality of April and guns. I meant the causality of guns and violence. Just so we’re on the same page, I think April’s fine. Really.)

    I love this topic.
Let’s be honest, guns are only good for one thing: killing people.
Any real hunter could certainly bag their game with archery gear.
At what point does our beloved NRA qualify as a terrorist organization?

Disclaimer: I do now own an air powered pellet gun. I have yet to kill anything with it. Damn chipmunks.
